I have a seat cover and matching diaper bag for my nieces, but I was wondering what colors and fabrics are used in them. The employer said padded fabric, but we found none that looked like the bridge. What new mother and her baby, fabric, color and texture. This bag should be easier to do after choosing the seat cover car, but not one of you has a lien on what is in style now? Thank you, niece has a daughter and a son. Need input for both.

i made my own too and i used a solid color fleece for warmth on one side and made it reversible with a cotton simple print with pastels on the other…the fleece is really warm, i quilted them myself so i could be sure they would hold up through repeated washings

Anything that is too dark or a solid color will show spit up or milk or dust. I would stick with something neutral or medium colored with a print. Also, asian prints are beautiful on diaper bags and have pretty prints. I have seen them in pink, red and green. These diaper bags were not quilted but if you need to quilt the car seat cover for warmth use some batting in between two layers or use the fabric on the outside and warm soft fleece on the inside to quilt it yourself. Good Luck!

We had one that we purchased at Babies R Us, and it was fleece on the outside, and (fake) shearling on the inside. We lived in Michigan at the time (where winter weather is bitterly cold) and it was wonderful! The material really all depends on where the family lives. Do they live in Southern California? If so, get something lighter weight–you don’t want the baby to swelter. Do they live in Minnesota? Get something very warm and fuzzy–maybe a flannel outside and lambswool inside. Regardless of what color or fabric you buy, make sure it’s stretchy, otherwise it’ll sag and gap and won’t cover the carseat properly, thus letting in cold air, or possibly (if it’s too snug) restricting the baby’s movement.
For the diaper bag, get something very sturdy (denim, corduroy, etc.) that can either be machine washed multiple times, or can be wiped off/out with a damp cloth. Diaper bags should be sturdy.
For the colors of the carseat covers, I’d go with something bright–primary colors, maybe. A nice vivid blue for the boy and a bright, cheerful yellow for the girl. Depending on the age of the babies, they don’t see colors very well (it’s only black and white at first) but as they get older by a month or so, they start seeing colors, and they’ll be able to see the brighter ones better (as opposed to the pastel colors). Plus, by buying blue and yellow, it’ll help avoid any confusion as to the sex of the baby. Most people mean well, but when they walk up to a baby and say, “Oh, he’s so cute! What’s his name?” and the person is referring to your daughter, it can be sort of upsetting and frustrating.
